Hilton Head Island
A 3-day plan built by locals — covering the best beaches, tours, restaurants, and experiences on the island.
After checking in, head straight to Coligny Beach Park — the island's most accessible public beach. Spend the afternoon getting your bearings, swimming, and walking the shoreline. The beach faces southwest, so the afternoon light is beautiful.
Head to Skull Creek Dockside for your first Hilton Head waterfront dinner. The Lowcountry shrimp and grits are the move, and the sunset views over the Intracoastal Waterway are unmatched. Arrive by 6:30pm for the best light.
After dinner, walk or drive to the nearby Skull Creek Boathouse for a nightcap on the water. Live music most evenings, and the outdoor deck is one of the best spots on the island after dark.
Book the 9am dolphin tour — the morning light on the water is stunning, and dolphin activity is highest in the early hours. Lowcountry Watersports departs from Shelter Cove Marina and typically sees multiple dolphin pods per tour.
After the tour, head to Sweetwater Steamer for a Lowcountry boil — the quintessential Hilton Head meal. Order online ahead of time so it's ready when you arrive. Eat outside and enjoy the post-tour glow.
Drive to Sea Pines Resort and spend the afternoon at Harbour Town. Climb the lighthouse for panoramic views, browse the shops, and watch the boats come and go from the marina. If you have kids, the Pirates of Hilton Head cruise departs from here.
End the day with a sunset cruise aboard the Vagabond catamaran. The 90-minute cruise departs about an hour before sunset and gives you unobstructed views of the Calibogue Sound as the sky turns orange and pink.
After the cruise, dinner at Poseidon at Shelter Cove Marina is the perfect cap to the day. The raw bar and baked oysters are exceptional, and the marina views at night are beautiful.
Harold's Diner is a Hilton Head institution — cash-only, no-frills, and serving the island's best breakfast since forever. Get there before 9am to beat the line. The omelettes and burgers are both excellent.
Rent bikes and ride through the Sea Pines Forest Preserve — a 605-acre maritime forest with paved trails, a Native American shell ring, and wildlife viewing areas. One of the most underrated experiences on the island.
Before heading out, stop at Coligny Plaza for some last-minute shopping. Hilton Head Vibes has the best selection of Hilton Head-branded apparel on the island — pick up something to remember the trip.
